George Harold “Potter” Salsman
SALSMAN, George Harold “Potter” (89), R. K. MacDonald Nursing Home, Antigonish and formerly of Stormont, Guysborough County, died Monday, March 08, 2010 in the home. Born in Stormont, he was a son of the late Rhuben Ottis and Effie Isabelle (Hudson) Salsman. Throughout his life, Potter worked at many different trades including lobster fishing, Seal Harbour Goldmines and at the Pictou Shipyards. He also worked at various lumber camps throughout Guysborough County and finally worked at installing hardwood floors all through Nova Scotia and Newfoundland until his retirement. Potter loved mackerel fishing, spending hours on the Stormont Wharf. This was something he did entirely for the social aspect, as he never ate his catches, instead, choosing to give them to people in the nearby communities and abroad. He also took great pleasure in watching baseball, especially the games held at the Country Harbour Gun Club. He is survived by brother Carl, Stormont; nieces Wanda Richard (Kevin), Dawn Salsman (Joan Morrison); nephews Carl “Bud” Salsman (Theresa), Lloyd Salsman (Margie), Michael Salsman (Cindy); great nieces Erin Richard, Michelle Salsman; great nephews Brendon Richard, Matthew Salsman, Ethan Salsman, Liam Salsman. He was predeceased by brother Bruce. Visitation will be held Friday from 1pm-2pm in G. W. Giffin Funeral Home, 17545 Highway 316, Country Harbour, and from where funeral service will be held at 2pm with Rev. Julia Howard officiating. Burial in Stormont Cemetery.
