Lowell Edward “Lowie” Walsh
WALSH, Lowell Edward “Lowie” (86), Country Harbour Mines, Guysborough County, died Monday, February 01, 2010 in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born in Stormont, he was a son of the late Frank Keith and Margaret Winnifred (Hayne) Walsh. In earlier years, he worked as a miner at the Seal Harbour and Goldbrook Goldmines. Following this, Lowie sailed on the Great Lakes from 1950-1960. He then was employed with the Department of Transportation and as a woodsman until his retirement in 1989. Lowie had a great love of animals, especially his cat Sandy. Lowie loved to drive the mail car, and always kept a pocket full of candy for all the neighborhood children. Having quite the sweet tooth himself, Lowie, despite being diagnosed with diabetes, always seemed to manage something sweet to eat during the day, his fondness being for cookies. He was a past member of the Harbourview Fire Department for many years. He is survived by son Frank (Sheila), Lochaber; Robert (Gina), Country Harbour; daughters Karen (Wayne) MacPhee, Goshen; Pauline “Bunny” (Michael) Pitts, Westville; twin sister Leola Woodworth, Salisbury, NB; grandchildren Craig MacPhee, Tara MacPhee, Mitchell Hayne, Courtney Walsh, Ashley Walsh, Skylar Walsh; great grandchildren Shelby Jordan-Hayne, Max Jordan-Hayne; several nieces and nephews. He was predecease by his wife, the former Garnita Bernice Fenton; brothers Nello, Ellsworth, Allan; sister Shirley Walsh. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 6-9pm in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Country Harbour and from where funeral service will be held Thursday at 3pm with Rev. Dawn Leger officiating. Burial in Holy Trinity Anglican Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Memorial donations may be made to Holy Trinity Fund.
