WHITE, Bernice Claire (Skidmore).  With heavy hearts the family of Bernice Claire White, 85, Country Harbour Lake, announce her passing. Bernie passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, August 29, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Harold and Gertrude (Lloyd) Skidmore.  Bernie left home at an early age and moved to Toronto with her best friend Nel, where she honed her fashion sense working at Eaton’s downtown.  It was there she met her husband Geordie and together they moved to Country Harbour Lake to raise their family.  She was a wonderful homemaker and loved having her family around to enjoy her delicious cooking and baking, especially her homemade bread. She took great pride in her home and yard, loved flower gardening, dancing, skating, crossword puzzles and watching sports, but most of all she loved her family. Bernie will be loved and missed by her husband of 63 years, Geordie; children, George (Diane), Country Harbour Lake; Linda (Wayne Schofield), New Minas; Tommy (Eileen) Country Harbour Lake; Terri (Scott) MacAulay, Baddeck; Jackie (Steve) Belyea,  New River Beach, N.B.; Lisa (Steve Thomas), Halifax; her 11 devoted grandchildren, Melissa, Daniel, Dylan, Nick, Matthew, Alison, Shannon, Alexandria, Natasha, Joe and Ryan; and 4 great grandchildren, Danika, Brax, Alistair and Maggie; sister, Helen MacDonald, New Glasgow, brother Reggie Skidmore, Trenton.  She will be fondly remembered by her sisters-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers Kenny and Jim.  The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Antigonish Palliative Care team and the Melrose Continuing Care Nursing team for all of their support. A special thank you to Dr. Maureen Allen, Trish MacKay and Alanna Hayne for their care and kindness. Cremation has taken place.  Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice. At Bernie’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Arrangements are under the dignified and compassionate care of the G.W. Giffin Funeral Home, 17545 Highway 316, Country Harbour.
