Creamer, Harold Andrew "Hal"
"Coot" It is with profound sadness, the
family of "Hal" Creamer, age 70 of Port Felix,
announce his passing on July 5, 2018 in Guysborough Memorial Hospital.
Born in Phillip’s Harbour on January 22, 1948, he was a son
of the late Harvey and Beulah (Greencorn) Creamer. Hal was active in
local sports playing shortstop for Guysborough Josts, a member of the
team winning the Provincial Championship in 1970 in the "D"
division. He played defense for the famous Port Felix
Oland’s forming many lasting friendships even though he was
a diehard Toronto Maple Leafs fan in a Montreal Canadiens locker room.
He was employed at Canso Red and White (meat department) for many
years, and was Returning Officer many times for all levels of
government elections. After suffering a debilitating injury as a
result of an MVA in 1984 he was unable to resume his job, he returned
to school and received a diploma in business administration. Unable to
participate in sports he joined the Canadian Amateur Softball
Association for registered umpires, and in the immortal words of Barry
Richardson, "he would have made a Great Ump except he was blind
as the Three Blind Mice. Hal is survived by his
wife, Cynthia, son, "Partner" David (Keri); he was
"Gampie" to Zoe and Sydnie with whom he shared many tea
parties and was gladly subjected to the latest hairstyles and nail
paintings. He was "Uncle Coot" to special nephew Dennis
Flemming who always showed him how "the latest gadgets"
worked and especially how to string Christmas lights from every nook
and cranny of the house; sister, Mabel Hendsbee; brother, Clarence
(Bernadette) Creamer all of Phillips Harbour; many nieces, nephews and
their families. Hal was predeceased by brothers, Gordon, Edward, a
brother in infancy; and sister, Linda. Visitation will be held
Tuesday, July 10 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in St. Joseph’s Roman
Catholic Church, Port Felix, from where funeral service will be held
Wednesday at 1 p.m. with Father Jonathan Nnajiofor
officiating. Interment to follow in St. Joseph’s Parish
Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Joseph’s
Parish Cemetery Fund or a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements
