CASHIN, Howard Patrick "Howie" Age 71 Port Felix,
Guysborough County. It is with heavy hearts and much sadness that we
announce the passing of Howie on Sunday, September 16, 2018 in
Guysborough Memorial Hospital. Howie passed away peacefully
surrounded by his loving family. Born in Port Felix,
February 27, 1947, he was a son of the late Francis and Velda Cashin.
Howie worked at many different jobs, including the BIO, fishing,
construction, and carpentry. He was a "jack of all
trades" and mastered them all. He was a member of the
Labourers’ Union for over 40 years, a former member of the
Tree Top Volunteer Fire Department and an active member of St.
Joseph’s Parish. Howie did many projects for many
people and on any given day you could find him in Port Felix,
Whitehead, Little Dover, Charlos Cove or Erinville lending a helping
hand. No problem was too big, nor too small for Howie to
tackle. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his good friend,
Bill; a daily visit with Mary Ann and Doug; a coffee with Timmy;
taking the newspaper to Cecil and ice fishing in the winter with
Laurie or Chris. If you called the house, you would often
find him in his office, aka, the shed. If you needed
anything, he was the handyman to go to and if Howie didn’t
have it, you didn’t need it. He is survived by his
wife of nearly 50 years, Doreen (Marr); his "one and only
daughter", Norma (Darrel) Keefe; brother, Donald (Alana);
sisters, Mary Ann (Doug); Connie (Nelson); Donna (Emery);
mother-in-law, Rita David; sister-in-law, Lorna Cashin, many nieces,
nephews and cousins. Not only will Howie’s family
miss him dearly, so will the entire community. He was predeceased by
his brothers, Roddie, Rev. Robert and his nephew, Gerard. Cremation
has taken place. Visitation will be held Friday from 2:00 to 9:00 pm.
in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church Port Felix from where
funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday with Rev. Jonathan
Nnajiofor officiating. Burial to follow in the parish
cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St.
Joseph’s Parish Building Fund or a charity of your
choice. You can also do an act of kindness in
Howie’s memory. Doreen and Norma would like to
express heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of
Guysborough Memorial Hospital, especially Dr. Bell, Karen Hoben and
Thelma Bond for their compassionate care during his illness. Funeral
arrangements are entrusted to G.W. Giffin Funeral Home, Country
Harbour. On-line condolences may be made at
