Harris, Gladys Irene, Age 88, of Fairview, Halifax and formerly of Country Harbour, Guysborough County, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 in Maplestone Enhanced Care, Halifax where she resided for the past 3 years. Gladys was the eldest of four daughters born to the late Obediah and Erma (Worth) Fenton. She spent 5 years teaching school, then worked as a civil servant in the accounting department until her retirement in 1989. She served her Lord and Saviour faithfully, receiving her 45 year pin as a Sunday School Teacher from Grace Wesleyan Church, Halifax. Gladys had a wonderful gift of hospitality opening up her home often with a home cooked meal and a bed to those coming to the "city". She is survived by her devoted husband of 53 years, Walter Harris; sisters, Marion Mason, Antigonish; Beulah (Wyman) Myers, Country Harbour; Mickey (Clayton) Harpell, Bedford; brother-in-law, Graham Harris, Brantford, Ont.; sisters-in-law, Faye (Ken) Barkhouse, Antigonish; Muriel Harris, Halifax; many nieces, nephews and their families. Gladys was predeceased by brothers-in-law, Havelock Mason, Whitman Harris; sister-in-law, Eve Harris. Visitation will be held today, Thursday from 7-9 p.m. in G.W. Giffin Funeral Home, Country Harbour from where funeral service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. with Lewis MacIntosh officiating. Interment to follow in Holy Trinity Anglican Cemetery, Country Harbour. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or Holy Trinity Anglican Cemetery.
