Edith Anne (Reid) Volk Age 85, of Eight Island Lake, Guysborough County and formerly of Trenton, Pictou County passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, January 19, 2019, at home. Edith was a daughter of the late Aulden and Clara (Martel) Hensbee. Edith raised 10 children. She operated the general store on Trenton Road for many years and baked at the Green Thumb. She married Ron in 1982 and spent the last number of years in Goshen. She loved to garden, make quilts and tole painting. Edith was a member of the Goshen Seniors Group where she loved to play games and cards on Wednesday afternoon. Edith was a strong believer in the Roman Catholic Faith. Over the span of her lifetime, she touched many lives with her kindness and compassion. She is survived by her husband Ron; sons, Lennie (Sue); Ricky; Aulden (Barb); stepsons, Tommy Volk; Alan Volk; daughters, Sandy Reid; Pam Reid; Carole (Lee) Smith; Darlene (Phil) Peters; Joan (John) MacDonald; Debra (Carl) Hughes; Bonnie (Wayne) Yausie; stepdaughters, Cheryl Elliott; Karen MacGregor; 30 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sisters, Joan Jordan; Delores Bailey; Betty Fraser; Elsie Hughes; many nieces, nephews and their families. She was predeceased by brothers, Aulden and Sheldon Hensbee. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. in G.W. Giffin Funeral Home, Country Harbour. Funeral service will be held Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, Lochaber with Rev. Charles Cameron officiating. Interment at a later date in St. Patrick's Parish Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Coastal K9 Rescue Society. Following the service, a reception will be held in the Goshen Community Centre. Edith’s family would like to say special thanks to Dr. Phillip Cooper, Patricia MacKay and the VON nurses for all their care, kindness and compassion.
