KAISER (Wood), Jessie MacIntosh, R.N. It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Jessie, of Port Bickerton, Guysborough County.  A truly humble and kind lady, dearly loved by her family and many friends, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Friday, March 15, 2019 in Dartmouth General Hospital. Jessie was a dedicated R.N., community volunteer and a generous friend to many. Most notably she was a devoted and loyal wife to the late Captain Eric Kaiser and an exceptional and loving mother to her six children. Born on the family farm in Garden of Eden, Pictou County on October 2, 1929, she was the eldest daughter of the late Daniel Alexander and Emily Matilda (Clyburne) Wood. Following graduation from school and too young to pursue her dream of nursing, she attended Normal College in Truro and upon graduation taught school in Port Bickerton. It was here where she met the love of her life, Eric. On reaching admissions age she attended the Aberdeen School of Nursing graduating in the top percentile of her class. Jessie was a passionate R.N. who gave service to her profession at Saint Mary’s Hospital, Sherbrooke; The V.G. Hospital, Halifax; countless clinics; community nursing; and concluding her nursing career with The Department of Veterans Affairs. Her many achievements were recognized with numerous accolades and volunteer awards throughout the years.  Jessie was an active attendee of the Port Bickerton United Baptist Church; a lifelong volunteer for the Heart and Stroke Foundation; an honorary member of the Women’s Institute of Nova Scotia; and member of St. Mary’s Flower Club, having won many awards for her beautiful flowers and arrangements. Always willing to give of her time, she held dear the numerous friendships she developed from the organizations and community nursing in which she was involved. She extended her kind and generous spirit to all and was widely respected for her tenacity and dedication to whatever she turned her hand to or to those who required her assistance. Predeceased by her husband Eric, infant son, Michael Bradford,  parents and brother, Frederick Wood, she is survived by her children,  Dale (Barb), Janice (Jerry) Harpell, Brian (Coreen), DeVerne (Barb), Marjorie-Jane (Donnie) Nickerson, Kurt (Cindy); sisters, Marjorie Polley and Edna Hambleton; sister-in-law, Margaret "Peggy" Wood; grandchildren, Derek Smith, Jonathan and Joshua Kaiser, Ryan Harpell, Deanne Savoie, Holly and Gina Kaiser, Farrah-Anne Garbutt, Erik and Colin Kaiser, nine  great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.   Visitation will be held Friday March 22nd from 1-2 pm in the Port Bickerton Community Centre with funeral service following at 2:30 pm with Rev. Ron Ford and Rev. Norman Pearce officiating. Interment in Hillside Cemetery at a later date. Family flowers only with memorial donations to Port Bickerton United Baptist Church or to The Hillside Cemetery Fund. Special thanks to Oakwood Terrace where Mama resided for the past three years as well as the E.R. Staff and 3-East nursing staff at the Dartmouth General Hospital for their kindness and compassion extended in her final hours. Funeral arrangements are under the dignified and compassionate care of G.W. Giffin Funeral Home Ltd., Sherbrooke.  Online condolences may be made at www.gwgiffin.com.
