Ralph Peter Casey
Casey, Ralph Peter Age 61, Larry’s River, Guysborough County, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 in Guysborough Memorial Hospital after fighting a brave battle with cancer. Born in Canso, he was a son of the late Harry and Blanch Casey. Ralph worked various jobs, including driving the school bus, but spent the better part of his life working for K&N Fisheries. He was an avid volunteer in the community and spent many years as Chief of the Volunteer Fire Department. Playing guitar and singing were his passions. He played at many variety concerts in the community and had many fans who eagerly awaited his weekly Facebook posts. You could always count on him for a laugh, especially when times were tough, since he always had a witty comment and a smile that could light up the room. Even when he was losing his fight with cancer, his response to "How are you doing?" was "Just chuggin’ along" and he never lost his smile. No one ever had a bad word to say about Ralph, if you met him, you loved him. Ralph is survived by his wife, Dorothy, step-sons, Jimmy Avery (Shirley); Roger Avery (Betty); grandchildren, Karen, Kenny, Kyle, Matthew, Chantelle; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Rick (Anne-Marie); Keith (Barbara-Anne); Trevor; sisters, Lucy (George) O’Hearn; Jean Casey (Bobby); Mary Casey (John); Ruth (Darryl) Greencorn; Myrna Casey; brothers-in-law, Thomas Avery (Helen); Raymond Hendsbee; sisters-in-law, Bernice (John) Stone; Vicky Avery; many nieces, nephews and their families. He was predeceased by brothers, Ronnie, Howard, Brent; sister, Frances Hendsbee; brothers-in-law, Leonard and David Avery; sister-in-law, Beatrice (Billy) Horne. Visitation will be held Sunday, from 2-9 p.m. in Communities Along the Bay Multipurpose Centre, Bradford Pellerin Room, Larry’s River. Funeral Mass will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Larry’s River with Father Callistus Abazie officiating. Interment will follow in St. Peter’s Parish Cemetery, Larry’s River. Memorial donations may be made to Guysborough Memorial Hospital Palliative Care or The Lodge That Gives.
