DAVID, Rita Annie (Marr), 94
years of age, died peacefully at home on Saturday, September 12, 2020.
Born in Port Felix, she was a daughter of the late Leander and Mae
(Avery) Marr and she is the last surviving member of her family. As a
young woman, she worked at the Lismore and Canso Fish Plants, the Nova
Scotian Hotel in Halifax and as a housekeeper to the CND’s
in Port Felix. She lived with her family in Halifax for many years and
her place was one where you could always stop for a cup of tea or meal
if you happened to have an appointment in the city. Rita often had
boarders from the country and she welcomed everyone. Upon her return
to Port Felix, she became a long-standing member of St.
Joseph’s Parish, Port Felix. She was often regarded as
"Nan" in the community as she especially loved children and
bought many Christmas gifts and gave out many homemade mitts and
socks. She loved bingo, word-find, knitting, housekeeping and having
her family and friends visit. She was happiest when she had a houseful
of people. Rita is survived by her daughters, Doreen, Darlene (Cecil),
both of Port Felix; Claudette (Patrick), Elmsdale; son, Fawn (Cathy),
Lantz; grandchildren, Norma (Darrel), Angela (Rick), Ashley (Joseph),
Brendon (Katelyn); great-grandchildren, Mack and Paige Ballam, Emmett
and Wesley David; nieces, nephews and their families; cousin and
friend, Agnes (Nita) Cashin. She was predeceased by her husband,
William; brothers, Francis and Raymond; sister, Gladys and son-in-law,
Howie Cashin. The family would like to thank those who lovingly cared
for Rita allowing her to remain at home: Nita, Bernice, Bev, Mary,
Connie, Carol, Kerri; Home Care workers, Melanie, Patty and Ashley;
her nurses, Janine, Allison, Thelma and Bessie. Special thanks to Dr.
Ranjini and Dr. Bell. Social distancing protocols must
be followed and masks are mandatory for the visitation and funeral
service. Attendees will be asked to provide their name and phone
information at the Church. Visitation will be held
Tuesday, from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. in
St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Port Felix from where
funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev.
Jonathan Nnajiofor officiating. Burial to follow in the parish
cemetery. There will be no reception following the service. Memorial
donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Parish Building Fund
or a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements entrusted to
