Hewitt,Eva Helen Age 84, Port Hillford, passed away on July 30, 2014 in St. Mary’s Memorial Hospital, Sherbrooke. Born in Port Hillford on November 7, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Edgar Morse and Annie (Reid) Hewitt. Helen graduated from St. Martha’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1953. She started her nursing career in Sherbrooke and later at St. Martha’s Hospital, Antigonish, where she was the head nurse on 3rd West, retiring in 1991. Helen will be remembered for her dedication to nursing, as well as her knit and crocheted handwork. She was a member of Port Hillford United Baptist Church, Port Hillford Women’s Institute and Florence Fraser Chapter #47 Order of The Eastern Star Lodge. She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Alice Hewitt, Port Hillford and Marilyn Hewitt, Dartmouth; nieces and nephews, Catherine Hewitt, Antigonish; Frances (John) Gosse, Dartmouth; David Hewitt, Toronto; Brenda (Peter Hammond) Hewitt, Prospect Village; Mary Hewitt, Halifax and Donald (Amy) Hewitt, Morrin, Alberta and grand-nephews Benjamin Gosse, Reid Anderson, Lucas Hewitt, Connor Hammond, Nikolas Hewitt and Carter Hewitt. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her brothers James Reid and Edgar Morse (Bud) and her dear friend Asa Hurst. Visitation will be held Saturday from 1 to 2p.m. in G.W. Giffin Funeral Home, St. Mary’s Chapel, Sherbrooke from where funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev David MacLean officiating. Interment to follow in Cherry Hill Cemetery, Port Hillford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cherry Hill Cemetery Fund or charity of choice. Funeral arrangements are under the dignified and compassionate care of the G.W.
