Anderson, John Algoth "Jack"
Age 83. Long time Sherbrooke resident, "Jack"
Anderson, passed away peacefully at St. Mary's Memorial Hospital on
September 12, 2014. Jack was born in Sonora, on July 29, 1931, and
raised in nearby Goldenville. Jack worked at various occupations in
his youth; however, his most notable vocation, one that shaped his
entire adulthood, was his time in the Canadian Army. He was stationed
in Germany from 1951-53 with his older brother Douglas, as a member of
the 27th Canadian Infantry Brigade, which was sent to Germany as part
of Canada's initial contributions for NATO. Subsequent employment
included helping construct many highways throughout Nova Scotia,
driving for Imperial Oil, and as night-watchman at Historic Sherbrooke
Village from 1979-1996. Jack is survived by his loving wife Mona
(Scott); sons, Byron (Laurie), Bedford, Philip (Maxine), Lake Echo;
sister, Jessie-Marie, Sherbrooke; granddaughters, Scarlett, Brooke,
Emma-Grace, and Iris. Jack’s extended family consisted of
three nephews and one niece and many cousins in Nova Scotia and
Norway. Jack was predeceased by his parents, Hans and Gertrude (Gale);
brother, Douglas, and sister, Astrid Jack. Jack loved the outdoors,
whether outside working, or out for a "little hunt" or
fishing. He was passionate about staying fit, and was often seen
walking throughout the area or driving his bicycle. A lover of hockey
and history, he could discuss both topics in depth. Jack was a kind,
loving, generous soul, who would do anything for a friend or loved
one. He loved life and enjoyed singing, dancing and telling humourous
stories. He was a dedicated husband and brother and a proud father and
grandfather who loved his family with all his heart. Thanks go out to
all the doctors and nurses who provided care for Jack these past few
months. Family flowers only please. In lieu of flowers donations can
be made to the St. Mary's Memorial Hospital Fund. To
celebrate Jack's life a visitation will be held in G.W. Giffin Funeral
Home, St. Mary’s Chapel, Sherbrooke on Friday, September 19,
from 7:00-9:30 pm. Funeral arrangements are under the dignified and
compassionate care of the G.W. Giffin Funeral Home, St.
Mary’s Chapel, Sherbrooke. On-line condolences may be made
