Stevens, James Leslie Age 80. It is with great sadness that we announce the death of James Leslie Stevens, of Goldboro, N.S. on Monday October 20, 2014 at St Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish after a long and courageously fought battle with illness. Born on October 1, 1934, in Sussex N.B., he was a son of the late Thomas and Elsie (Wallace) Stevens. A 32 year veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces, he retired to the one place he and his family always called home, beautiful Goldboro, where he continued to enjoy his much loved hobbies of refinishing furniture, wood-working, hunting and feeding the wild birds.   A kind and gentle man always willing to help others, James was the ultimate BBQer, an avid woodsman, he enjoyed camping with his family and loved walks to The Run with Helen.  He will be missed by all. James is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Helen Jane Stevens (MacArthur); wonderful father to Donda (David) Holt and Kristiana Stevens (Clive King); proud Papa Jim to Kimberley (Jamie) Holt-Bullen, Katie (Patrick) Holt-Ward, Korey and Shayla Holt; and Great Papa to Joshua Bullen, sister; Lucy Lisson; brothers; Earl, Verner (Jackie), Donnie (Donna) and many nieces, nephews and in-laws. He was predeceased by sisters, Betty Carhart, Mildred Mathews and Kathleen Brown, brother, Sydney; sister-in-law, Evelyn Stevens; brothers-in-law, Leonard Carhart, Robert Brown, and Greg Lisson.  Cremation has taken place. At Jim’s request no funeral service will be held.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bayview Cemetery, Goldboro. The Family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr William Booth and the staff of St Martha's Regional Hospital for their excellent care given to James over the years.  Heartfelt thanks also go to family friends Dale Fanning and Jenny Crooks for all of their support. Arrangements are under the dignified and compassionate care of G. W. Giffin Funeral Home, Country Harbour.  Online condolences may be made at www.gwgiffin.com
