Hurst, Francis "Red" Alexander
~ Age 77, Hilden, NS. Francis died peacefully at
Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro on June 24, 2015. Born in
Port Hilford, Guysborough Co. on December 3, 1937 he was a son of the
late Alexander and Augusta (Jordan) Hurst. Francis graduated
from Mt. Allison University in 1961 where he was president of the
Engineering Society. After graduation, he was employed at NS
Tractors & Equipment Ltd. where he was Manager of Industrial
Products. Eventually he joined Cummins Diesel Ltd. as Marine
Engine Sales Manager where in 1981 he received a special recognition
award for Industrial Direct Engine Sales in the Canadian Marine
Market. He was well know in his field for specializing in
hydraulic and generator repairs and often had his driveway full of
boats and motor-homes waiting to be serviced. He was Past-President of
the Kinsman Club of Sackville and served at zone and district
levels. He was building chairman and Vice-President of the
Lake District Recreation Association in Sackville where he secured the
contracts to build the Sackville Arena and the Metropolitan Field for
the community. He enjoyed working on projects in his garage,
playing guitar, all sports, and spending time with his
family. Francis is survived by his wife, Arlene (Mills);
daughters, Heather, Ottawa; Alison (Perry) Kelly, Windsor Junction,
son, Craig (Lyn), Tucson, AZ and their mother Marilyn (Schultz);
grandchildren Fionn & Lachlan Kelly, Daisy & Baron
Hurst; sister, Mona Mills, Sherbrooke; brother, Sherman (Shirley),
Tennessee; sister-in-law, Mary Hurst, Antigonish. He was predeceased
by brother, Donald and brother-in-law, Douglas Mills. He will also be
missed by many nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be
held on Monday, June 29, 2015 at 2pm in St. Thomas Anglican Church,
Indian Harbour Lake, with Rev. Tory Byrne officiating. Interment at a
later date. Family will receive friends at Indian Harbour Lake
Community Center immediately following the service.
Family will also receive friends in Middle Sackville on
Tuesday, June 30 from 6-8pm at St. John’s the Evangelist
Anglican Church Hall, 954 Old Sackville Road.

may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia. Funeral
