FORMER PRESIDENT OF ANTIGONISH FARMERS' MUTUAL INSURANCE COMPANY PASSES AWAY

 

MACINTOSH, Peter Albert Age 99, Argyle, Guysborough County passed away peacefully with family by his side on Friday, December 30, 2016 in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born in Argyle, he was a son of the late William and Greta (Sinclair) MacIntosh. Peter married Christine MacGregor in 1943 and the both of them worked together operating a small family farm. Apart from operating the family farm, he managed the Argyle Co-op store from 1946-1947. He served on various committees and boards during his life time including the Eastern Dairy Foods Co-op, St. Andrew's Co-op, Presiding Officer for a number of Municipal, Provincial and Federal elections, King's United Church Cemetery Association, King's United Church Trustees, Antigonish Farmers' Mutual Insurance Company from 1975-1998 including 10 years as its President. He was recognized in 1986, for his invaluable services and cooperation extended as a Canvasser during the St. Martha’s Building for Health Campaign. In 1990, he was granted an Honorary Membership in the Antigonish-Guysborough Federation of Agriculture. After fulltime farming, he devoted a lot of time each year to planting and nurturing his garden. Peter travelled to many parts of Canada with his son Lewis, attending many Funeral Service Association National Conventions. In 2003, he was made an Honorary Funeral Director and Honorary Life Member of The Funeral Service Association of Canada at their annual convention in Charlottetown, PEI. Peter is survived by daughter, Greta Cameron, Lower Sackville; son, Lewis, Argyle, granddaughter, Evelyn (Mike) MacNamara; Lower Sackville; grandson, Darrell (Barb) Cameron; Lower Sackville; great-grandsons, Ryan (Marsha) MacNamara, Windsor Junction; Connor MacNamara (Kelsey Johnston),  Lower Sackville; sisters-in-law, Ina Corkum, Estey’s Bridge, New Brunswick and Dama Mason, Oakville, Ontario; brother- in- law, Arthur (Marsha) MacGregor, Burtt’s Corner, New Brunswick.  several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great grandnieces and nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Christine MacGregor formerly of Springfield, Antigonish Co., sister,  Margaret MacIntosh,  son- in- law, Hughie Cameron, brothers and sisters- in- law, Rose & Huntley Mason, Mary & Seward Grover, Jay Mason, Emery Corkum, John & Elaine MacGregor, Cora MacGregor. Visitation will be held Monday Jan 2, 2017 in King’s United Church, Loch Katrine from 2-5 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. from where funeral service will be held Tuesday January 3, 2017 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Meredith Marple officiating. Interment in King's United Church Cemetery. Family flowers only please.
