Burns, Basil Edward 94, Tor Bay, Guysborough
County passed away peacefully in Milford Haven Home for Special Care,
Guysborough on Monday, October 11, 2021. Born October 20, 1926 in
Sonora, N.S., he was a son of the late Stanley Burns and Sophia
(Pride) Burns and step-mother, Kathleen (Kaye) Burns. Basil was the
last surviving member of his immediate family. Basil first trained in
Toronto for the Second World War, ready to be shipped out when the war
ended. He worked for Fairy Aviation in Shearwater as a
fitter of airplanes. After they stopped production he got a
job at Halifax Dockyard until he retired in 1979 when he moved to Tor
Bay. He loved to hunt and fish and loved to show his boys
and grandchildren how it was done. On May 21st,
Basil lost the love of his life, Caroline, who he was married to for
73 years. Basil is survived by his children, Betty Grover,
Guysborough; Arthur Burns, Tor Bay; Daniel (Tammy) Burns of Windsor,
N.S; son-in-law, Willard, Tor Bay. Grampie also leaves
behind his most cherished grandchildren, David (Renee), Darlene
(Donald), Rhonda (Todd), Todd (Janice), Sheila (Rufus), Leslie
(Patricia), Thomas (Ashley), Michael (Willow), Christopher (Erika),
Shelly (Bartok), Sean (Sylvia), Jeffrey (Melanie); 20
great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews
and their families who were very special to him. Besides his parents,
he was predeceased by brothers, Bill, Freeman, John and Bernie and
sister, Annie. Visitation for Basil and Caroline will be held in the
Communities Along the Bay Hall, Bradford Pellerin Room,
Larry’s River, Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service
will take place Saturday at 11 a.m. in St. Luke’s Anglican
Church, Liscomb, with Rev. Kristin MacKenzie officiating. Committal to
follow in St. Luke’s Anglican Cemetery. COVID protocols
require masks be worn and proof of vaccinations shown at the
visitation and funeral. Family flowers only please. Memorial donations
in Basil’s name may be made to St. Luke’s Anglican
Church. Funeral arrangements are under the dignified and compassionate

Harbour.
