Hayne, Cyril Ross Age 86, of
Antigonish and formerly of Goldboro, Guysborough County passed away on
Monday, March 7, 2022, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital,
Antigonish. Born in Antigonish, he was a son of the late Ross and
Marion (MacArthur) Hayne. Cyril served in the Canadian Armed Forces
from 1952 to 1955 and recently joined the Royal Canadian Legion Branch
59, Antigonish. He owned and operated Hayne Automotive Supplies in
Hamilton, Ontario. He later worked for Canadian Tire in automotive
parts for a number of years. He and Rose moved back to Antigonish in
2001.They both loved attending social events and you would often see
them enjoying a coffee in the evenings at The Wheel Pizza and Sub
Shop. Cyril is survived by his wife, Rose (Hassin); an
abundance of nieces, nephews and their families. He was predeceased by
brothers, Frank Taker, James Hayne; sisters, Eleanor Taker, Kathleen
(Weatherbie) McGaffin, Joyce Johnston and Louise
Wagner. Cyril may have been a "city slicker" for
many years, but his country roots remained. "Uncle Cyril",
besides the great love that he had for Rose, loved music and baseball!
He especially loved country and western music. They were regular
attendees at the yearly Hank Snow Festival. His incredible memory for
lyrics and lovely voice had him always singing along with the radio or
his guitar playing friends. Cyril loved to travel either to visit
friends and family, or to explore. Some favorites were Hawaii,
Jamaica, Bahamas, Mexico, California, and of course Nashville.
Retirement allowed wintering on Florida's Gulf Coast, where they kept
up their tradition of daily walks hand in hand, bringing smiles to
people's faces. Humour was ever present in Cyril.
He was the King of the "one-liners" that instantly resulted
in folk’s spontaneous laughter. Cyril was a kind
and caring soul. Forever loved and missed, he was one of the good
guys. Visitation was held Friday, March 11, 2022 from 2-4 p.m. in C.L.
Curry Funeral Home, 135 College St., Antigonish. A
graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at 11:00 a.m.
in Bayview Cemetery, Goldboro with Lewis MacIntosh
officiating. A reception will follow in
