Peverley, Helen Viola Age 77, of Mulgrave and formerly of Loch Katrine and Country Harbour, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 10, 2022 in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born in Port Hawkesbury, she was a daughter of the late Aubrey and Edith (Myers) Manuel. Helen was a 1965 graduate of the Aberdeen School of Nursing. She worked for many years as a Registered Nurse at the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow. She also received a 2 year diploma in Business Administration from NSCC Stellarton. Helen loved to work in her vegetable garden and share her bountiful harvest with friends and neighbours. She could be found over the years working and tinkering on her cars. Helen was a fiercely independent strong woman who loved the outdoors which was evident in her love for cutting and splitting her own firewood. She loved all animals and had a very strong bond with her dog Miki, who travelled with her everywhere and her love for her cat Katie of 19 years. Helen was a very kind and compassionate woman who was always there to help anyone in the neighbourhood. Helen is survived by her sons, Billy (Adriana Martinez), Texas; David (Juanita Johnston), Port Hawkesbury.  She was predeceased by brother, Clarence Manuel; sister, Lorraine MacKenzie. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 15th at 2 p.m. in King’s United Church, Loch Katrine with Lewis MacIntosh officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in Durham Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Memorial donations may be made to St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit. The family would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff in the palliative care unit for the love and care given to Helen over the past few months. They would also like to thank Dr. Ross Mason from Halifax and Rebecca McDonald, Musical Therapist, at St Martha’s for her compassion and lasting memories she has provided to us her family, and also thanks to Helen’s friends who have visited, called and sat with her many times but especially during her final days. Funeral arrangements are under the dignified and compassionate care of G.W. Giffin Funeral Home, 17545 Highway 316, Country Harbour.
