McDermott, Joseph Michel Robert, Age 63, of Goshen, NS and formerly of Casselman, Ontario. After a long battle with COPD, Michel found his peace at home on Monday, March 27, 2023. Born in Ottawa, Ontario, he was a son of the late Daniel and Madeleine McDermott. A man, known by many names: Mike, Mikey, Michel, Michael, Mitch and McDuff. He touched many lives during his 36 years with CBSA. He started as a warehouse operator in the 1970’s. The 80’s saw him become a Customs officer and then Superintendent; from there, Intelligence Analyst and HQ-IMS. Even after retiring in 2013, he spoke fondly of his work brothers and sisters! His passion for leather work was legendary to his last moments. He was an avid video game enthusiast as well. The Knights of Columbus played a big part of his life and beliefs. Their support during the last few years in Nova Scotia were greatly appreciated and a blessing. Mitch will be sorely missed by his wife, Roselyn (MacHattie) and stepchildren, Scott and Stephanie, Goshen; sons, Daniel and Joshua, and their mother, Joanne, Plantagenet, Ontario; his sister, Susan (Alain) Robert, Limoges, Ontario. There will be no funeral service. Burial will take place at a later date in Limoges, Ontario. Arrangements are under the dignified and compassionate care of G.W.
