On August 23, 2023,
surrounded by her family, Cathy passed away at the Fort St. John BC
Hospital from complications resulting from ovarian cancer. Cathy was
the oldest daughter of the late Truman and Annie (MacLeod) Mailman of
Liscomb and Isaac’s Harbour, Nova Scotia.
Cathy started a new
life relocating her and her children from a previous marriage from New
Glasgow, Nova Scotia to Fort St. John, British Columbia where she
joined her soon to be husband, Edison MacDonnell, formerly of Judique,
Nova Scotia.
Cathy was a hard
worker, enjoyed movies, books, especially Daniel Steel novels and had
the crafting bug. She enjoyed activities such as cross stitching,
painting, diamond dot painting, patchwork quilting and resin craft.
Once the children were of age, Cathy decided she wanted to travel and
picked up a liking for cruising. Her husband, who reluctantly had to
admit that she was right about cruising, enjoyed the adventures she
meticulously planned. Cathy also enjoyed camping with their RV with
friends at local RV parks, not traveling too far away but far enough
to be enjoying the outdoors. Anyone who knew Cathy knew she loved
plants. Not always the greenest thumb, but she could never leave a
plant abandoned. At one time Cathy had over 50 plants that she
enjoyed. Cathy, deciding she needed another job, started her own
cleaning company. With support of her husband they started EC Breezy
Janitorial Ltd., and with Cathy’s hard work and desire to
provide a quality service, created a successful
business.
Cathy is survived by
her husband, of 23 years, her children, Melanie Grover (David Hidber)
Grande Prairie, Alberta; Morgan Grover (Amber), and Matthew Grover of
Fort St. John, British Columbia. They provided her with 6
grandchildren all of whom she adored. Cathy was the oldest of three,
and is survived by her sister, Lisa Mailman (Warren Wageman) Grande
Prairie, Alberta.
Cathy was predeceased
by her father, Truman, mother, Annie, and her brother, Steven in
infancy.
As per her wishes,
cremation has taken place and Cathy will be laid to rest along side
her parents and brother, Steven at a later date in St.
Luke’s Anglican Cemetery, Liscomb, Nova Scotia. Memorial
donations can be made in her name to the British Columbia Cancer
Foundation.
A Celebration of Life
ceremony will be held on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 from 1-5 p.m.
at the Lido Theater in Fort St. John, British Columbia.
