SMITH, Basil Charles age 89 of Indian Harbour Lake, Guysborough County passed away on Wednesday, March, 13, 2024 in High-Crest Sherbrooke Home for Special Care. He was a son of the late Morton and Marguerite (Bedford) Smith. Basil spoke to everyone, he knew so many people from work, volunteering, yard sale and auction trips. He loved dogs; he and Barb always had one. Basil was a plumber by trade; he worked in Halifax and at Liscombe Lodge. He moved to the Sherbrooke area in the 1970’s. He worked several other jobs during his life, the last being at the Department of Transportation as a dispatcher in Sherbrooke. He was a "Tory", supporting the Party, especially helping the local candidates; he was very involved in Ducks Unlimited, doing a lot of work fundraising. Basil is survived by his partner, Barbara (MacIntosh) Cross; sons, Barry, Gary, Paul, Basil, their wives and children, all of Alberta; brother, Harry (Deana), Broad Cove; sister-in-law, Rosemary Smith; special niece, Sharron, who the thought of as a daughter; many nieces, nephews and their families. He was predeceased by brothers, Morton Jr., James; sisters, Reta and June. In keeping with Basil’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service .
