BEISWANGER, Eileen BeatriceAge 88 of Port Bickerton, Guysborough County, passed away on Monday, August 12, 2024, in High-Crest Sherbrooke Home for Special Care. Eileen was a daughter of the late Nathan and Marjorie (Baker) Croft. Eileen and Harold started raising their family at the Port Bickerton Lighthouse. She was a long-time resident of Port Bickerton and served as Councilor for two terms. As councilor in 1993, Eileen received the Canada 125 Commemorative Medal. Eileen had many careers during her time, too many to mention them all. She was up for the challenge to try just about anything. People would come to the lighthouse for a visit knowing she had fresh bread and the best malt beer one could make at that time. Eileen was always happy to see family come for a visit. She loved seeing her grandchildren and later her great- grandchildren when they would come to visit. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, cooking, baking, gardening and we can’t leave out deer hunting. Mum also took up painting later in her life and was very proud of her work. She was one of the founding groups and instrumental in having the Lighthouse turned over to the residents of Port Bickerton. She also did a bit of writing about the early years. She had a monthly piece in the Guysborough Journal for a period.  Eileen is survived by her sons, Michael (Ley), Clark (Florence), Wynn (Brenda); daughter, Elaine (Eugene) MacDonald; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren, brothers, Terry (Lou), David (Barb); several nieces, nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold; brother, Dick (Ida); father and mother-in-law, Irvin and Ivila Beiswanger. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 2 p.m. in St. Paul’s Anglican Cemetery, Port Bickerton. Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Port Bickerton. Funeral arrangements are under the dignified and compassionate care of the G.W. Giffin Funeral Home, 17545 Highway 316, Country Harbour.
