RHYNOLD, Phillip Frederick, a man whose laughter brought joy to many, passed away peacefully, Sunday, September 1, 2024, after a courageous four-and-a-half-month battle with cancer. Born on May 1, 1954, in White Head, Phillip’s early life shaped his strength and resilience. He and his twin brother John were born prematurely weighing just over two pounds. While his brother sadly did not survive, Phillip defied the odds, spending months in an incubator before going on to live a full and vibrant life. Phillip’s hands were rarely idle. Whether working as a maintenance man at the fish plant for 24 years, welding, fishing, or keeping the lighthouse, he was always busy, always fixing something. If it was helping his sidekick, Harvey, build his garage or his sister-in-law, Lori, with her many small projects, he could literally make or fix anything. A true character, Phillip was a card play enthusiast whose shenanigans at the table kept everyone entertained. He was also a bit of a hoarder, keeping everything because, as he often said, "I might need it someday." Yet, when that day came, finding what he needed was another matter altogether. When Phillip wasn’t tinkering or playing cards, he could often be found in his truck, blasting old country music loud enough for everyone around to hear—everyone except Phillip, that is. His love for music was matched only by his love for his beloved pets, who brought him much comfort and joy throughout his life. Sunday morning was reserved for him and his Lovey to watch "Coronation Street." This weekly tradition brought him great pleasure with his treasured dogs and cats on his lap. Phillip was married for 49 years to his "Little Woman", Vera who stood by him through thick and thin. Together, they built a life filled with many cherished memories. Phillip was more than just a husband; he was everybody’s friend, always ready with a helping hand and a kind word. Phillip’s passing is a great loss to all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the countless lives he touched. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Vera (Conway), White Head; brothers, Havelock (Gene), Barrie, ON; Lindsay (Lorna), White Head; Donald (Ruby); White Head; sisters, Beryl Fleming, Barrie ON; Glenda Baker (Reg), Liverpool; Janice Hendsbee (Seward), Half Island Cove; Donna (Val Cashin), White Head; many nieces and nephews and their families. Phillip will be reunited with those who have gone before him. Namely, his parents, Fred and Clara (Jones) Rhynold; brothers, Gerald, Douglas, Arnold, and Morris, Claire and John infancy in; brothers-in-law, Bob Fleming, Mark Conway; sisters-in-law, Muriel Rhynold, Nancy Rhynold, Sandra Rhynold, Barb Rhynold and Lynn Jelleau. Rest in peace, Phillip. You will be deeply missed by many, but your legacy of love, friendship, and laughter will never be forgotten. Family graveside prayers will be held. Friends and family are welcome to gather at the White Head Community Center at 2 pm on Tuesday, September 10th, to celebrate all that Phillip is and was. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the White Head Community Association. Funeral arrangements are under the dignified and compassionate care of G.W. Giffin Funeral Home, 17545 Highway 316, Country Harbour. On-line condolences may be made at www.gwgiffin.com.
