It is with deep sorrow we announce that Carol passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family in Dartmouth General Hospital at the age of 68. Born in Edmonton, Alberta, she was a daughter of Gladys (Sutherland) and the late John "Jack" Sinclair.

Carol spent her elementary and high school years in Ottawa, going on to study theatre at Camosun College in Victoria, leading to a decades-long career as an accomplished actor and playwright. Early on, she honed her comedic acting and writing skills with Second City Revue and SCTV, eventually performing in such films as The Greening of Ian Elliot, Pit Pony, Poor Boy’s Game and a continuing role in the Nova Scotia series Black Harbour. In 2015, Carol received the ACTRA Award for Best Supporting Actress in the film Sex and Violence.

A fierce advocate for local Canadian content, Carol wrote and produced plays for theatres including Mulgrave Road and Ship's Company in Nova Scotia and Blyth Festival in Ontario.  Carol was a long time member of the Playwrights Guild of Canada, the Banff Playwrights Colony and Tarragon Playwrights Unit, Toronto.  She was a member of ACTRA, Canadian Actors Equity Association, Theatre Nova Scotia, Writers’ Federation of NS, and the Playwrights Atlantic Resource Centre. She was a founding and five year member of the Nova Scotia Arts Council.

Several of Carol’s plays have toured locally, nationally and internationally, including Sabina’s Splendid Brain, Brownie from Hell, Summer of the Handley Page, and Idyll Gossip to name a few.

She had beautiful mastery of the English language, great comedic wit and was an extraordinary writer. She was always a supporter of women’s achievements and fairness for all in society. Carol was very thoughtful, never forgetting to mark birthdays and special occasions of family and friends. She made life interesting and fun with her pranks, practical jokes and amusement with the bizarre. With her artistic talents came a passionate, feisty and complex nature. We were gifted to have shared life with her.

We pray for peace and joy in homecoming for Carol, strength for our Mum to bear the loss of a child, and healing for our family.

Carol was predeceased by her father, John "Jack" Sinclair and is survived by her mother, Gladys (Sutherland) Sinclair; her sisters, Dawn Hemeon, Joanne, Heather; brother, John; nieces, Jennifer, Lindsay Sinclair-Roy, and nephew, Sam Leverman.

Carol's family wishes to thank the medical team at the Dartmouth General Hospital for their compassionate care, and extend their heartfelt thanks to Carol’s supportive neighbours for all their help, especially during the last months of her life.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 19 at 2:00pm, in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Road, Halifax. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 28th at 2:00pm in Evergreen Cemetery, Cross Roads Country Harbour with Lewis MacIntosh officiating.
