Elizabeth
Marie Cole-Munroe
It is with
heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Marie
"Betty" Cole-Munroe. Betty passed and joined her
sweetheart in heaven, Basil on Feb 20, 2026 in St. Martha’s
Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit with her family by her
side.
She was a
daughter of the late Viola (Snyder) and Osborne George. Born in St
Martha’s Hospital, Antigonish on February 7, 1945, she was
raised in Queensport having lived the last 40+ years in Charlos
Cove.
Betty loved
music, including a Kitchen Party with Basil, Rodney, Lorraine, Gloria
and Harold and numerous other folks over the years. She
enjoyed local talent at variety concerts and taking in local dances;
she also enjoyed her extensive CD collection. Betty looked
forward to shopping and hunting for a deal. She took pride
in her and Basil’s home, and their yard with its many
flowerbeds; making sure there was plenty of wood for the cold
winter nights. Betty loved animals and nature; she kept the
birds fed or just getting out sightseeing on a local
drive.
She and Basil
were able to remain at home for their final years due to the kindness
of friends and neighbours. Special people include Dave,
Maria, Penny, Valerie and Ron, her extended family. Betty was
very proud that she was able to live independently in her home, until
she left the last time to take on a complicated
surgery.
Betty is
survived by sons, James (Colleen), Rodney (Lorraine); grandchildren
and families of Devon, Dillon, Natalie and Derek; siblings, Joan
George, Gloria Greene, Patsy Langille, John Snyder; stepchildren,
Wanda Lee and George and grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and their
families; a very special God Daughter, Donna Archibald
Malloy.
Betty was
predeceased by her husband, Basil Wallace
Munroe.
A Celebration of Betty's Life will be held Saturday,
July 18, 2026 in the Communities Along the Bay Multipurpose Centre,
Larry's River with Lewis MacIntosh
officiating.
