With his beloved wife Cathy and family members by his side, at the age of 79, Peter McConnell MacDonald died peacefully on April 23, 2026 in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Toronto.

Born on December 31, 1946, in Sydney Nova Scotia, Peter graduated from Mount Allison University in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Political Science and started his banking career with the Bank of Montreal. In 1987, he went to work for Canada Trust, retiring in 2000 from his role as Vice President, Corporate Credit. An avid lifelong reader with a keen interest in finance and politics, Peter was always happy to mentor and share knowledge with others in his field. He was known for his quick wit, and his kind and thoughtful nature.

Peter was predeceased by his mother, Adah; father, Lloyd; brother, Philip; and his cousin, Lynn. He had many fond memories of his grandmothers Baw (Charlotte) and Nanna Katie.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Cathy, his sister, Nancy, brothers, Max and John, cherished cousins, Ian and Scott, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

A reception for friends and family was held in Peter’s memory in Toronto on May 12th. A Graveside Service and Interment will take place at Lakeside Cemetery in Port Hilford, Nova Scotia, on Monday, August 3, 2026, at 2 p.m. The Service will be followed by a reception in the Indian Harbour Lake–Jordanville Community Centre. All are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Peter’s memory may be made to Parkinson Canada (donate.parkinson.ca), St. Joseph’s Health Centre, 30 The Queensway, Toronto, (supportstjoes.ca), or Toronto General Hospital (support.uhnfoundation.ca).

The family wishes to sincerely thank the staff at St. Joseph’s Health Centre for their kind and thoughtful care.

Peter will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
